Free bushfire building standard to be released

Fire-affected councils will soon be able to use download a free document on buildings in bushfire-prone areas following an agreement between the Australian Government and Standards Australia.

The two entities have agreed to jointly fund access to AS 3959:2018 Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas until 30 June 2021.

AS 3959 gives guidance to professionals in the building and construction industry, and is primarily concerned with improving the ability of buildings in designated bushfire-prone areas to better withstand bushfires.
