The Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission has announced it will be progressing charges against the Logan mayor and sever current councillors following a major corruption investigation into the Logan City Council.
CCC’s Operation Front commenced its investigations in late 2017, following evidence uncovered by a previous investigation that found issues of serious wrongdoing in the council.
All eight members of the council are expected to be charged in the coming days with a variety of offences, including corruption, perjury and failing to declare conflict of interest.
Suspended Mayor Luke Smith is expected to be charged for interfering in a recruitment process and commencing a dishonest probation process.
Further information regarding the charges by the CCC will be detailed by the watchdog’s Chairperson in the coming days.
