Quirk announces departure

After eight years in the top job at the Brisbane City Council, and 34 years in local government, Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has stepped down from the post.

Cr Quirk has made the decision to re-contest the next local government elections in 11 months, telling the media that he wanted to depart the job to focus on his family and private life.

The Local Government Association of Queensland praised Cr Quirk’s ‘stellar career in local government’.

“Leading Australia’s largest council is no easy task for anyone. However, Graham has performed the job with integrity, unflagging enthusiasm and rigour,” the association said in a statement.

Cr Quirk’s departure will see Adrian Schrinner step into the role, with Krista Adams taking the role of deputy.
