Tasmania launches review of local government act

The Tasmanian Government has announced a major review of the state’s Local Government Act in a move that it claims will ensure that legislation better reflects and supports community expectation.
State Minister for Local Government Andrew Gutwein announced a series of public community consultation sessions throughout the state which he said will give Tasmanians the opportunity to engage directly with the team undertaking the Review, to ask questions and make submissions.
The sessions are as follows:
Gnomon Pavilion, Ulverstone, 13 February
Tamar Function Centre, Riverside, 14 February
Diamond Island Resort, Bicheno, 19 February
RACV/RACT Hotel, Hobart, 20 February
The Review of the Local Government Act is expected to be completed and amendments in place before the end of 2020 to allow implementation before the next local government elections.
