Ballarat moves to join Climate Council network

October 15, 2018

The City of Ballarat has announced it will join the Australian Climate Council’s Cities Power Partnership (CPP).

The CPP is the nation’s largest local government climate program, and will see the city select five actions from the CPP’s 40 point program and commit to rolling them out within a selected timeframe.

The CPP aligns with existing works already being undertaken, including the City of Ballarat Carbon Neutrality and 100% Renewables Action Plan.

The CPP currently has more than 70-member councils, representing eight million Australians.

Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh said the City of Ballarat was committed to taking action on climate change mitigation.

“The City of Ballarat has already celebrated many clean energy successes and we are determined to further accelerate our uptake of renewable energy sources and reduce our carbon emissions,” Cr McIntosh said.

“It is the environmentally responsible way forward for our municipality.”
