Draft planning documents for St Leonards-Crows Nest released
The NSW Department of Planning and Environment has released a draft planning package for St Leonards and Crows Nest for community feedback.
The package includes the government's first local character statement, drafted in consultation with the Government Architect and the three councils covered by the plan, Lane Cove, Willoughby and North Sydney.
It also includes the draft rezoning proposal for future buildings over the Sydney Metro site at Crows Nest, the draft 2036 Plan, the draft Green Plan and the draft Special Infrasructure Contribution.
The following documents will be available from Monday 15 October 2018:
Draft Local Character Statement
Draft 2036 Plan
Draft Green Plan
Draft Special Infrastructure Contribution
Draft proposed rezoning for the Crows Nest Metro station sites
While the St Leonards-Crows Nest Local Character Statement was prepared by the Department, they can also be prepared by individual councils and the NSW Government has allocated $2.5 million to 15 councils this year to help them understand local character as part of reviews of their Local Environmental Planning policies.
Local Character Statements feature specialist technical studies to detail how the community’s vision can be achieved, and a Draft Green Plan that guides the planning and design of new open space and green canopy for the area.
The Local Character Statement for St Leonards-Crows Nest identified the need to avoid overshadowing over Willoughby Road’s vibrant restaurant precinct, as this was a specific part of the character of the neighbourhood residents wanted to protect.

Feedback is required by November 25.
