Western Australia calls for comment on new Local Government Act
The Western Australian Government has called for public comment for the formation of the state’s new Local Government Act.
State Local Government Minister, David Templeman, has called on Western Australians to have their say on the development of the new act.
"While I expect local government to play a significant role in the reform process, consultation also requires input from the community,” Mr Templeman said.
"The reforms will help improve the way local governments make these decisions and contribute to better services, better decisions, and more efficient and accountable local government into the future."
Proposals include mandatory social media policies, online voting and penalties for breaching tendering rules
Ideas for change on matters including local government elections, community engagement, rates, fees and charges and financial management, among other areas are also being considered.
More information is available here. Public comment is open until March 31, 2019.
