Call for members of Joint Regional Planning Panels
The NSW Department of Planning and Environment is calling for experts to be State members on Sydney and Joint Regional Planning Panels.
Deputy Secretary for Planning Services, Marcus Ray, said the positions are paid part-time roles that can be undertaken alongside current jobs.
“As part of an independent body, you’ll be making decisions on regionally significant planning applications valued over $30 million. You’ll also play a role in planning proposals, undertake rezoning reviews or act as a planning authority when directed.”
To ensure independence, alternate members will also be appointed for when a member needs to sit out on a decision because of a conflict of interest.
There are five Sydney and four regional panels in operation in NSW and they have this year collectively approved 244 development applications, totalling $9.05 billion (as of August 30).
The Panels are led by an independent Chair appointed by the Minister for Planning with the agreement of Local Government NSW. The State Government and councils each appoint two representatives.
State panel members are appointed based on their expertise in either planning, architecture, heritage, the environment, urban design, land economics, traffic and transport, law, engineering, tourism or government and public administration. Together they ensure development decisions are made on technical merits, efficiency, fairness and transparency, with the added benefit of local knowledge.
The Department seeks expressions of interest from candidates for the following roles:
Chairs for all Regional Planning Panels (commence July 2019),
State members for all Sydney and Regional Planning Panels (commence July 2019),
Chair for the Sydney Central City Planning Panel (commence January 2019),
Alternate (on-call) members for all Panels (commence July 2019).
Panel members are paid $1866 (Chairs) and $1435 (members) per meeting day, are hired for a maximum of three years, and should be available about 28 days a year.
Applications close on Sunday, September 30, 2018. For more details, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 02 9223 1855.
