New Local Government minister appointed in Morrison shake-up


Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has been appointed Minister for Regional Services, Sport, Local Government and Decentralisation in the recent announcement of Prime Minister Scott Morrison's new ministry. Senator McKenzie was Minister for Sport in the Turnbull ministry.

Other appointments of interest to local government in the new ministerial line-up include:

  • The former Minister for Human Services, Alan Tudge, has been appointed Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population, replacing the former Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities, Paul Fletcher. Mr Morrison said that Mr Tudge will be responsible for "congestion busting".

  • Sussan Ley, Health Minister in the Turnbull ministry until she resigned in January 2017 amid an expenses scandal, has been appointed Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories, replacing John McVey

  • Michael McCormack retains Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, as well as Deputy Prime Minister
