Victorian councils to get advice on affordable housing
The Victorian Government has allocated $500,000 to provide local councils with professional advice and support on how to negotiate with developers to include affordable housing in their developments.
New changes to Victoria’s Planning and Environment Act 1987 establish a framework for affordable housing, define who is eligible for affordable housing, and create a pathway for councils and developers to lock in affordable housing delivery as part of a development project.
The package will help councils with:
expert professional advice on negotiations and understanding a site’s capacity for affordable housing
a subsidised short course, delivered in partnership with industry and professional peak bodies
seminars and discussion forums with case studies to highlight successes and lessons learned.
