Council input sought for management of biosolids

The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) is seeking council's input into how bio-solids produced by sewage treatment plants are managed and reused.

The LGAQ is representing local governments on a technical advisory panel that is examining the issue with the goal of producing recommendations on the requirements for reuse as part of an “End of Waste” code.

The code will replace the current beneficial use arrangements and legislative requirements due to expire at the end of the year. Once in place, councils will only need to register that they are producing biosolids for reuse.
