Greater Sydney Region Plan released

March 19, 2018

The Greater Sydney Commission has released has released its plan for the Greater Sydney Region, along with five final District Plans that support its implementation at the local level.

This plan, A Metropolis of Three Cities - the Greater Sydney Region Plan, along with Transport for NSW’s Future Transport 2056 and Infrastructure NSW’s State Infrastructure Strategy 2018-36 provide the planning framework for Greater Sydney as a metropolis of three cities: the Eastern Harbour City, Central River City and Western Parkland City.

It the first time that Greater Sydney has land use, transport and infrastructure plans that have been developed concurrently.

Developed over the past two years, the Plans are structured around four core themes - infrastructure and collaboration, liveability, productivity and sustainability.

With the population projected to grow to 8 million over the next 40 years, almost half of whom will live to the west of Parramatta, the Plans focus on three cities where people live within 30 minutes travel of their workplace, services and public spaces, and aim to align infrastructure and growth to restructure economic activity and access across the three cities.
