Report calls for libraries to promote online services
A new report on the “intrinsic value of libraries as public spaces” has found that libraries need to more actively embrace and promote their role in providing online services.
The report is the second instalment of a research project between Civica and the Institute for Public Policy & Governance at the University of Technology Sydney looking at the changing role of library space in Australia and New Zealand
The first report established that libraries have changed from being lenders of books to being community hubs offering an array of services, particularly 'online' services. It suggests that even though libraries are adopting a hybrid physical-digital model of library service, there is a need to communicate this to the wider community.
“There needs to be a proactive shift that affirms their presence in the hybrid physical-digital space that could be addressed through partnerships and collaboration to promote greater user uptake of online library services.”
