Call for submissions on review of WA local government

The Western Australian Government has launched the public consultation for the first phase of the review of the Local Government Act 1995.

The review canvases options for major reforms to modernise WA's local government sector, including laws around disclosure of gifts.

Local Government Minister David Templeman recently launched the consultation paper and called on local governments, residents, community organisations and businesses to make a submission.

The Government is seeking public comment on a range of issues including councillor conduct, local government transparency and accountability, and accessibility of public information through the use of technology.

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has prepared the consultation paper and will be conducting 14 workshops across the State to promote the paper and provide opportunities for people to have their say.

The consultation is open for public comment until February 9, 2018. To register for a workshop or make an online submission, visit
